Road To Recovery Road Series Book 1 edition by Natalie Ann Contemporary Romance eBooks
I am SO GLAD I found the "All" series before I found this one because my utter dislike for Brooke would have turned me off from continuing this series and that would have been a shame because they definitely do get better. If you find yourself put off by Brooke (as I was), skip this one and go right to the next in the series because Cori is everything that Brooke is not.For me, this book only gets three (very generous) stars because Brooke, the heroine, is cold in a way that made me very uncomfortable when I was reading it, and extremely judgmental in a way that was totally off-putting and not at all in line with any of the other books by this author. A lot of Brooke's issues were probably supposed to be her own self-esteem issues coming out, but it didn't read that way and it sure didn't make up for her, uh, "snitchiness" in my opinion. (Example: Not everyone can physically handle the strain that running puts on the body, especially on a treadmill, and yet TWICE we got treated to her utter judgy disdain for people who walk instead of run when they're working out? She is recovering from a back injury - that would make running difficult for her, btw - but she doesn't take into account that others might have their own limitations?).
Lucas as a character was charming and wonderful. And he deserves either a purple heart or a CT brain scan for pursuing Brooke despite how cold she was, but they do, indeed, get the HEA we all hope for...because he is OBVIOUSLY a saint.
That said, I do enjoy this author's writing - an editor wouldn't hurt, but that's true with a lot of digital books these days - and the next three "Road to" books and the "All" series are so much better than this book. If you read this and don't like it because of the heroine, give the rest of the series a try.

Road To Recovery Road Series Book 1 edition by Natalie Ann Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
4 stars!
Spoken from Lucas and Brooke's POV.
After the accident, Brooke is left broken and not just from her physical injuries. Determined to put herself back together she moves from the town she grew up in to work in HR at a hospital in Albany. She does her best to hide her past lingering injuries and quickly befriends Cori, a quirky nurse she met at the gym. (This is where the story dragged just a bit for me but soon recovered)
When she is asked to meet with Lucas from the legal department she finds him handsome and charming. He relentlessly pursues her but she is reluctant because they work together. After finally giving in to her feelings they start up super steamy romance.
Being a type A personality, her walls are high and push the boundaries of their relationship. Lucas wants nothing more to be her everything but the past haunts her and secrets threaten to tear them apart. Will she be able to let him in?
Favorite quote
Out of the corner of her eye, she took note of his stance and tried not to laugh as the image of a peacock strutting on a treadmill came to mind.
Brooke is trying to rebuild her life after a tragic accident that took the life of her ex boyfriend and almost killed her. Unable to take the hovering from her parents, she gets a new job and moves three hrs away from her family. Then she meets the lead attorney Lucas Mathews at the hospital she's working at as a human resources manager. And things began to change for Brooke. While her body is mostly healed, there are some emotional scars that are in need of repair. Not just from her ex but due to a negligent childhood. And Lucas is just what she needs. He will show her a love that she never thought possible. While her brother Mac loved and protected her from her parents as a child she has never had a love interest to be as gentle and caring as Lucas Mathews. He will share his family and their open affection for one another with her. Show her new experiences and how to just relax and be free. And he will inundate her with all he has to show her how loves suppose to be. While Lucas knows at first sight he likes what he sees and enjoys spending time with her, he doesn't even try to fight it when that affection becomes love. Now he just has to get her to trust him and let her guard down enough to let her returning love shine through. I loved reading Road to Recovery and I am excited now about reading Cori's, Mac's and Ryan's stories.
Almost a year after being injured in a terrible accident that killed her boyfriend, Brooke is ready to move on with her life. But in order to do that she needs to move away from her overbearing and controlling mother who is determined to mold her into the perfect pampered housewife.
On the outside Brooke is strong, confident and self assured in her job, but on the inside she is lost and looking to find her way. Somehow Lucas sees through her charade and is determined to help her, even though she wants not part of a relationship, least of all with a co-worker.
Lucas has a soft spot for the wounded, and he saw right through her. He knows he can help her, if she would only let him.
It's a fast paced, sweet, yet funny love story. Lucas is definitely a true hero in this book. And let's not forget to mention the steamy love scenes!
I like to read reviews before purchasing a book. No different on this one. But I wanted to write one for this because of 2 reviews that had no bearing on the book. The first complained about the sex written and knocked it as a 1-star novel. However, if you read the description it tells that the book is for mature audiences. Don't buy it and then complain about sex when it says it plainly. This is not a 1-star novel in any way at all--it deserves a better rating than that.
The second one is a complaint about the character Brook being awful and pushing and pulling away. Uh, it's explained and if you don't like the character then I think you didn't actually read the book. It's well written and I loved the characters. They stayed with me enough that I read a second time just so I'd have more time reading about them. Brook was a product of how she was raised and what happened to her. I've met people like her. Still don't hate them even if I didn't understand why they were the way they were.
This is a 5-star book to me in that I wanted to read it again after I finished reading it.
I am SO GLAD I found the "All" series before I found this one because my utter dislike for Brooke would have turned me off from continuing this series and that would have been a shame because they definitely do get better.
